PROFILE

One of the fundamental statutory activities of the Institute is education within specializations offered by the Faculty of Electical Engineering, Computer Science and Telecommunications, namely:

  • Network Computer Systems and Software Engineering (within the subject area of Computer Science),
  • Diagnostics and Computer Control Systems (within the subject area of Automatic Control and Robotics),
  • Data Communications (within the subject area of Electronics and Telecommunications).

The Institute offers Ph.D., M.Sc. and B.Sc. programmes, as well as postgraduate courses. In general, during the studies emphasis is put on the universal and modern character of courses related to a particular specialization of the studies. The laboratories in the Institute stand as a foundation for providing various courses within the wide spectrum of different subjects. The main are:

Modern control systems and optimization - courses related to issues from various areas of cybernetics (automatic control, robotics, control theory, modelling and simulation of control systems, operational reseach, artificial intelligence methods).

Software engineering and intelligent computations - subject thread strictly related to the Institute's research activities in the field of artificial intelligence and its applications to control systems, fault detection and isolation systems, expert systems, neural networks, fuzzy and neuro-fuzzy systems, evolutionary algorithms, as well as pattern recognition.

Computer graphics and multimedia - package of courses which support classes in computer graphics, multimedia and virtual environments. The range of introduced applications covers medical graphics, image processing and analysis, terrain modelling, fractals, further curves and surfaces, rational forms, physics-based modelling, particle systems, animation, flight simulation, and terrain generation.

Foundations of computer science and parallel computations - courses of significant meaning for teaching basic and advanced programming techniques and algorithmic approaches to solve engineering problems (data structures and algorithms, computer architecture, database systems, object-oriented programming, numerical methods, modelling of parallel and distributed systems, cluster programming).

Operating and networking systems - laboratory strictly oriented towards educational and research activities related to various aspects of operating systems, including networking systems, computer networks and network programming.
